Revolutionary Transformation of the Heart (long version)

In his EWTN homily on July 23, Fr. Frank Pavone talked about the Pro-Life Freedom Ride that would take place the following day. Like the Israelites, we need a revolutionary transformation of the heart.

The readings are first on the video. His homily begins at 4:45. Beginning at 15:40, he talks about the transformation of the heart needed in the Pro-Life Movement. At 16:32 he begins talking about the Freedom Ride.

Below is the longer summary of his homily that includes the readings. I posted this longer and sometimes paraphrased version because it is truly an inspired homily. Direct quotes from his homily are indented and/or in quotes.
1st Reading - Jeremiah 3:14-17 (NAB)

Return, rebellious children, says the LORD, for I am your Master; I will take you, one from a city, two from a clan, and bring you to Zion. I will appoint over you shepherds after my own heart, who will shepherd you wisely and prudently. When you multiply and become fruitful in the land, says the LORD, They will in those days no longer say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD!" They will no longer think of it, or remember it, or miss it, or make another. At that time they will call Jerusalem the LORD'S throne; there all nations will be gathered together to honor the name of the LORD at Jerusalem, and they will walk no longer in their hardhearted wickedness.
The prophet Jeremiah, preaching six centuries before Jesus, echoes God's great invitation to Israel - an urgent call - to return to Him. Jeremiah says,
Return, rebellious children.
The word "return" was the word Jeremiah used to describe repentance. He told the people of God, that because of the wickedness of their hearts, the Babylonians would invade their land, destroy the holy city Jerusalem and the Temple, and take them into exile. Not only that, it would be useless to fight the Babylonians because it was the hand of God.

Jeremiah was also calling the people to return now - to cease from their wicked ways NOW. To Jeremiah, the problem was not some military failure or political adversary or economic depression. The problem was the spiritual and moral decay of the people who were not keeping the covenant. The problem was a matter of the heart.
Return, rebellious children.
He was telling the people of God, "You have rebelled. That's why you have the problems you have." In chapter 17 of Jeremiah, we hear him say,
More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?
"How on earth do we explain the wicked, crooked, absurd, topsy-turvy, up-side-down meanderings of even our own hearts? Even we who are here at the altar, who believe in the Lord, who repent every day of our sins - even we find ourselves confused and frustrated at the directions our own hearts take."
More tortuous than all else is the human heart, beyond remedy; who can understand it?
And yet Jeremiah says there is hope. Although they would be scattered off the land, they would return. Coming back to the land was a key symbol of God's favor. And when they returned, God would gather ALL nations together in Jerusalem. Then Jeremiah says something incredible. He says,
In those days, they will no longer say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD!" They will no longer think of it, or remember it, or miss it, or make another.
"Now we don't appreciate how profound those words are. Do you know what  it would be like  - somebody saying to us, "The day is going to come when you won't even think of the tabernacle. You won't think of the Mass. You won't think of it. You won't remember it. You won't miss it. You won't make another." We would say, "What in the world are you talking about?"
The Ark of the Covenant was a chest made of acacia wood and covered with gold, inside and out. And in the Ark were kept three sacred objects  - all miraculous signs of God's Presence and Providence
  1. the stone tablets of the law (the 10 Commandments)
  2. a jar of manna (a sign of Divine Providence to the Israelites on their desert journey)
  3. the rod of Aaron that had budded forth (a sign of authority)
And on the top of the Ark was a slab of gold and two golden cherubim. This was considered the throne of God on earth very much like our Tabernacle. Jesus is here in the Tabernacle. This is the dwelling place of God on earth - His throne.

There are numerous stories in the Old Testament about the Ark. When the Israelites fought at Jericho, they took the ark of the covenant with them in order to show the enemy the presence of their God whose power was mightier that all other gods.
"When God's people had to go into battle, they didn't just bring their armies and their weapons, they brought the Ark. . . . The Ark of God, in other words, represented God's Power, His Presence, His very throne, His Providence. So how in the world is Jeremiah saying,
In those days, they will no longer say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD!" They will no longer think of it, remember it, or miss it, or make another.
"It can only be because something far more awesome, profound and powerful will have taken place. And what is it? The very throne of God will be their hearts. God will so take possession of their hearts, which as Jeremiah proclaims are more tortuous, mysterious, deceitful than anything else. God will take possession of their hearts. He will draw them together. The people themselves, gathered in the holy city ,will experience the presence of God more intimately, more directly, more profoundly than ever before so that it's not just a matter of these external things - as sacred and holy as they are. The prophets aren't saying do away with all external things. . . . The prophets aren't saying the external things don't matter. They are saying there is an internal transformation matters so much more . . . that it is even going to make things like this memories of the past.

"Now even in our faith we say something similar about the sacraments. You know that beautiful him that we sing, "Oh Lord, at That First Eucharist", . . .
So Lord, at length, when Sacraments shall cease,
May we be one with all Thy Church above -
One with Thy Saints in one unending peace,
One with Thy Saints in one unbounded Love.
"When Sacraments shall cease."

"When we're gathered together in heaven and we see God face to face, we won't need the tabernacle. We won't need Him hidden under the veil  - under the appearance of bread and wine! We won't need that any more. We're gonna see him face to face! His Name, the book of Revelation says, will be written on our foreheads. We're going to see God's face then. We're going to sit with him ON his throne. We won't need the ark. We won't need the tabernacle. We won't need the altar. We're going to sit with Him on His throne!

"There's only one way to get there. The heart has to be completely revolutionized and transformed. That's what the Gospel passage is talking about isn't it? Seed has been sewn in your hearts. Seed is being sewn in your hearts right now because the word is being preached to you. Seed is being sewn in your hearts by the Church and her ministries every day."
Gospel - Matthew 13:18-23 (NAB)

Hear then the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart.  The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirty-fold."
"Is it going to be on rocky ground? Is it going to fall among thorns? Are we going to let anxieties and fears choke it out? Are we going to be selfish and not let the Word grow? Are we going to be refusing to change? OR are we gonna welcome the Word with joy, understand it, ask for the Grace of the Holy Spirit to absorb it and live it out now matter what sacrifice it takes?

"Transformation of the heart!"

Fr. Pavone also talked about the reason for his being in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend. Saturday, the pastoral team of Priests for Life were going with him for the Pro-Life Freedom Rides. It is a historic moment for the Pro-Life Movement just as the Freedoms Rides of the 1960s were important for the Civil Rights Movement. The movement ties in beautifully with the readings because it is what we are about. This country is called to a revolutionary transformation of the human heart. We have to accept the Word of God in order to bear fruit in life.

Prior to the civil rights movement, state law said that rights for Blacks and Whites were separate but equal. In 1955, a federal law was passed that said "separate but equal" did not apply to interstate travel and that both Blacks and Whites were allowed on the same buses, in the same restaurants, etc., . . . But for 5 years, the law was not enforced.

So in 1961, 13 people decided to test the law. They personally and directly challenged, in the Freedom Rides, the states' refusal to enforce the Supreme Court decision to desegregate interstate travel. They knew that
if you separate the equal, you deny their equality. And this is what Civil Rights Movement rose up and said, . . . If we are equal, we are to be together. You treat people equally if they are equal. You don't separate them and segregate them as if one group has a disease that the other one doesn't want to catch. . . . They were talking about personally confronting the injustice. They realized it's not enough for a court to rule. It's not enough for a commission to issue a decree. What has to happen?"
More tortuous than all else is the human heart - beyond remedy. Who can understand it?
Continuing segregation would not change "separate but equal" into "equal." Continuing segregation was only continuing the deceitful and devious and evil ways of the human heart.
"It wasn't enough that a court had ruled. Evil still had to be purged from the heart. The only solution was to confront the injustice directly, . . . And they encountered all kinds of opposition along the way.  . . .  Why? It wasn't enough that a court had ruled. It wasn't enough. The evil still had to be purged from the heart and the only way it could be purged was when people were willing to accept the suffering that comes when you confront injustice. . . . they sang freedom songs . . . they refused to stop singing their freedom songs because those freedom songs weren't coming from a court. They were coming from the heart - hearts that had been transformed by God, and captured by the kingdom - hearts where good seed fell and fruit was being born. . . . They kept singing. . . And they kept singing. . . .They kept singing because there's a power greater than the law. . . It's the transformed human heart captured by the Word of God - and singing songs - of freedom.

"We're 50 years later. Now we don't have "separate but equal". we have something worse. We have separate and NOT equal. . . . the youngest members of the human family aren't even considered equal to the rest of us, aren't even considered to be persons, aren't even considered to deserve the protection of their life. . . . the law is slowly but surely moving in our direction. There is a law in effect in some states now that says the abortionist has to actually tell the women that the procedure destroys a whole, separate, unique, living, human being.  They have to use those exact words. That's progress, but it's not enough. We talk about the transformation of the human heart. We're not saying we don't have to change the laws. That would be a big mistake, because transformed hearts lead to transformed laws. We're not saying that we don't need good court decisions. We do. What we are saying is, it's time to ride for freedom - again. Because the human heart and the human person - each of us, individually, has to confront the injustice directly - has to stand with our unborn brothers and sisters - speak for them no matter what the opposition, no matter what the ridicule, no matter what the cost, no matter what the sacrifice.  . . . And if we think we're going to change laws and policies and eradicate this injustice - and be able to do so comfortably - think again! There is only one way out of this evil and that's for us to suffer.  You don't want to accept rejection ?. You don't want to accept persecution? You're not going to be part of the solution. Let's ride for freedom . . . It's a matter of the heart."

The unborn are the only class of people in the United States who are denied their unalienable right to life. Abortion is not about women’s health care; it is not about reproductive rights. Abortion is a violation of the civil rights of more than one million human persons every year. The Pro-Life Freedom Rides connect the civil rights movement of the 1960s to the civil rights movement for the unborn today.
Let us fight the good fight together. Join in the Freedom Rides any way you can. Donate to Priests for Life or donate to Susan4life.

Taking a Positive Step Toward the Culture of Life

In May, I posted a blog about the upcoming Pro-Life Freedom Ride in Birmingham, AL on July 23-24. Unfortunately, I am unable to go, but I do have a Pro-Life friend who is going and God has placed it on her heart to make a documentary of the event in order to help build the Culture of Life.

God is, in many ways, clearing the way for her - providing her with an expensive camera for almost nothing, a mentor with experience in the area of radio/tv/film - and more. She is, however, in need of funds for this endeavor and has come up with a website called Susan4Life where she is taking donations. I saw her after Church today and made my donation in person. Please pray about it and if God places it on your heart to be generous, please visit her site - Susan4Life and donate on the sponsor page!

Susan is an honest and generous person herself and she is dedicated with her whole being to the cause for life. I have personally stood and prayed with her in front of an abortion clinic during 40 Days for Life here in Austin. She has told her personal story at rallies. She has truly become a woman of God. Love is in her heart - and she has a BIG heart!

At Church, this morning, I was listening to the Gospel reading and asked myself the question, "How BIG is MY heart?" Today's reading is taken from the Gospel of Luke. It was the story of the Good Samaritan, but it begins with a young man who was testing Jesus by asking what he must do to gain heaven, Jesus answered with a question.
And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"  He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
Now Jesus was a good teacher. By asking a question in return, He was trying to get the young man to think about what he was asking - and even WHY he was asking it. What was his motive? He was testing Jesus, but he answered,

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."  And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."  But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
Ah! He was wanting to justify HIMSELF! Here was his motive for putting Jesus to the test - not to discover the righteousness of God, but to prove his own righteousness. Little did he realize that Jesus wanted to touch the his heart - to even expand it. Jesus' Merciful Heart is BIG! Our God is not small and He calls us, not to have a heart that is small, but a heart after His own Heart. How big would the young man's heart be? Jesus then tells the familiar story of the Good Samaritan.
'A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.  Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.  So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.  But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion,  and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.  And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
Now for the big question and the young man's answer that would reshape his heart, if he would let it.

" Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"  He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
Will we do likewise? How big is our heart? Is it small - excluding our neighbor - the one we do not like because they do not have the Truth like we do? Will you open your heart today and love someone you do not even know in order that she accomplish what God is asking her to do? Will you allow your heart to be moved by the Grace of God and embrace the cause for life and donate to Susan4Life? The lives of the unborn are on the line - at the mercy of big for profit organizations like Planned Parenthood that promote abortion for their own gain. The bottom line of Planned Parenthood is to make billions of dollars off of women they can seduce into their clinics with lies and rob them, not only of their money, but of the very life they carry within them - leaving them scarred and broken. But they do not care about these women like they say they do. Once they have their money, they have no need for them until the woman find herself pregnant again because the birth control Planned Parenthood gave her failed.

Will you do something to reverse our Culture of Death into a Culture of Life? Will you care about your neighbor who is pregnant and ready to walk into one of these clinics? Hear the voice of the Lord. How big will you allow your heart to be? Let Him speak to your heart.
If only you heed the voice of the LORD, your God, and keep his commandments and statutes that are written in this book of the law, when you return to the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul.
"For this command which I enjoin on you today is not too mysterious and remote for you.
It is not up in the sky, that you should say, 'Who will go up in the sky to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?'
Nor is it across the sea, that you should say, 'Who will cross the sea to get it for us and tell us of it, that we may carry it out?'
No, it is something very near to you, already in your mouths and in your hearts; you have only to carry it out. ~ Deuteronomy 30:10-14 (NAB)

Scientology and Forced Abortions

I saw this today and just had to pass it on.
Former Scientologists Claim Church Forced Abortions
Michelle Ruiz

Michelle Ruiz

Contributor

(June 14) -- The Church of Scientology is denying allegations levied by dozens of former members of its highest order, the Sea Org, who say the church forced them to have abortions because having children would interfere with their religious mission.

An in-depth report by the St. Petersburg Times cites several women who have filed federal lawsuits against the church, claiming they were ordered to abort their children as teenagers and young women or be shunned by the church, facing hard labor or alienation from their husbands.

"The policy was if a staff member became pregnant, that they were to have an abortion," former Sea Org member Claire Headley, 35, told the newspaper.

After joining the Los Angeles branch of the Sea Org in 1991 at age 16 and marrying a fellow member the following year, Headley said Scientology leaders forced her to abort two pregnancies at age 19 and 21. She said she felt she "had no choice," adding that the only two women she saw remain pregnant in the Sea Org were ordered to hard labor, with one digging ditches while pregnant.

Though Scientology's founder, L. Ron Hubbard, wrote of his support of families in the Sea Org, a new rule banning children in the church's administrative order was enacted in 1996, under new leader David Miscavige. The church maintained that the rule protected the church mission and children as well, saying that children interfered with the productivity of Sea Org members and that the rigor of Sea Org life not is conducive to raising families.

Despite the rule, Church of Scientology spokesman Tommy Davis denied any allegations that the church pressured young women to undergo abortions, saying women who choose to become pregnant are asked to leave the Sea Org but compensated during their transition.

"There is no church policy to convince anyone to have an abortion, and the church has never engaged in such activity," Davis told the Times. "The decision to have a child or terminate a pregnancy is a personal decision made by a couple. That applies to all Scientologists.

"If any current or former Sea Org member ever 'pressured' someone to have an abortion, they did so independently, and that action was not approved, endorsed or advocated by the church," he said.

Laura Dieckman, 31, alleges otherwise in a federal lawsuit filed against the Church of Scientology. She joined the Sea Org in 1991 at age 12 and married fellow member Jesse DeCrescenzo four years later. In 1996, she said, she was pressed into aborting her pregnancy, a decision her then-husband supported.

"I was pounded for two days by the top person in my organization ... about how the baby wasn't a baby yet, it was just tissue and it wouldn't matter if I aborted the baby," Dieckman told the Times.

In emotional video on the paper's website, a tearful Dieckman, who left the church in 2004, recalls instantly regretting the abortion.

"They will do an ultrasound before the procedure so you see the heartbeat. ... I'm lying there ... and I was like, 'No,'" she said. "But it's too late. I'd already done it."

The church flatly denies Dieckman's allegations.

"Ms. Dieckman made her own choices,'' Davis told the Times, saying she aborted the pregnancy "following discussion with her husband, who told her he was not ready to have children.''

In sworn depositions obtained by the St. Petersburg Times, other Sea Org witnesses like Sunny Pereira say they too were bullied into abortions they did not want.

"They put you in this position where you're weighing the lives of all these people you're supposed to be saving against this one little tiny speck of nuisance that's growing inside of you," Pereira told the Times.

Davis said the women involved in the lawsuits are accusing the church because of decisions the women now "appear to regret."

Kathryn Reeves, a former Sea Org member who left the order in 2009 with her husband and baby daughter, said the Sea Org supported her decision to start a family.

"I received lots of care and support from the staff and at no time was I made to feel guilty for wanting to have a child,'' Reeves told the Times. "My pregnancy was very calm, very sane and completely free of upset."

Forced Abortion Is Not Choice

The Elliot Institute is a non-profit organization who has done post-abortion research since 1988. Their latest report, that came out on April 20, 2010 is called Forced Abortion in America. It exposes "a widespread epidemic of unwanted, coerced and forced abortions taking place in the U.S."  Their research would suggest that most abortions are either unwanted or coerced.

One of the Institute's surveys found that 64% of the women who had abortions felt pressured by others to abort. The same survey showed that 80% of the women felt they had not received the counseling they needed to make a proper decision. More than half said that they felt rushed or uncertain in their decision to abort. Finally, they reported that the consequences for women who refuse to abort are often dangerous or deadly. Details of more than 200 filed cases were included in the report that showed that women or girls who resisted abortion either experienced violent attacks or were murdered.

In addition, they found that homicide is the leading cause of death among pregnant women in this country. Elliot Institute spokesperson, Amy Sobie, says, "Our files contain hundreds of stories from women and girls who were attacked or killed with the intent of getting rid of the pregnancy. We've been collecting these stories for more than six years through mainstream media sources and pro-life organizations who have been diligently reporting on these kinds of cases. The information is out there, but many people aren't aware of what might be going on in their own communities."

People might not immediately connect the incidences of violence or murder with abortion because, in many cases, the woman or girl never even makes it to the abortion facility. It is the opinion of the Elliot Institute that the availability of abortion actually justifies an attacker's thinking that the woman or girl shouldn't be having this baby. Their violence follows to get rid of the unwanted child.

A few cases included in the report were:
  • A Kansas man and his wife convicted of sexual abuse - The man raped his stepdaughters over a several year period, resulting in four pregnancies and at least one abortion, performed on an 11-year-old.
  • Two Ohio teenagers convicted for kidnapping and assaulting a pregnant teen, killing her unborn child - One of the boys thought he was the father of the child. The two boys hit the the girl and kicked her the abdomen to cause the death of her 8-month-old unborn child. DNA tests showed he was NOT the father.
  • A man sentenced to 9 years in prison for secretly giving his wife an abortion-inducing drug when she refused to abort - She taped his admission to giving her the drug and trying to convince her that she really wanted to abort.
  • A high school junior beaten to death by her 22-year-old boyfriend after refusing to abort - According to police, the man hit the teen at least four times on the head with a bat and admitted he did not want her to have the baby. He pleaded guilty after leading police to the girl's body, which he had buried under leaves in the woods. The man was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison.
There were also cases in the Elliot Institute report that involved assailants using abortifacients or other drugs to secretly induce an abortion, while others focused on pregnancy discrimination by employers, schools and others that can make women feel they have no choice but to abort. Pregnancy is too often seen as a threat to a woman's ability to perform her job or continue her education by many bosses, school counselors and others.
Dr. David Reardon, PhD,  biomedical ethicist and director of the Elliot Institute, said that it is not unusual to come across cases of women being pressured, threatened, or subjected to violence because they refuse to abort. Not only do studies show that homicide is the leading killer of pregnant women in the U.S., but women in abusive relationships are at higher risk of being the object of violence during pregnancy.

Even when she is not physically threatened, women who face intense pressure to abort are often threatened with abandonment, lack of support or emotional blackmail. Abortion is supposedly a woman's choice, and yet women who have suffered either physical or emotional violence for not aborting know that it is not true.

There is a real need for legislation that would hold abortion clinics liable for not screening women for evidence of coercion or pressure to abort. But if they were directed to the proper resources that can help them, the clinics that make the majority of their money from abortion services would probably not survive. It is financially better for them to assume that a woman coming to them for an abortion is doing so because it is her choice. It is this "no questions asked" policy that harms women in abusive circumstances. This also includes young girls who are the victims of sexual predators.

Women should never be the object of violence or pressure due to an unwanted pregnancy. A women who is forced into an unwanted abortion is also a wounded one.
Unwanted abortions are an internationally recognized violation of a woman's rights. Negligent, deceptive, rushed or high-pressure counseling is common. Unwanted abortions and symptoms of trauma, injury and 4 times higher maternal death rates
plus high suicide rates in the first year after abortion, present a portrait of injustice at best, not "choice" in any authentic understanding of the word. ~ "Abortion Is the Un-Choice"

Birth Control v Natural Family Planning

Now this is a really cute series of videos modeled off the PC v Apple commercials, only instead of computers talking to one another it is Natural Family Planning vs. Contraception.

There really IS a difference between birth control and NFP.
NFP wins, hands down because it's not about the sex.
It's about relationships.

NFP takes two. It builds trust.
It is love giving and life giving - and it improves overall intimacy.

NFP is natural.
It has no chemical side effects.
It has no health risks.

Contraception and the media.
NFP has great health benefits - but the media won't report it
because contraception controls the media.

Contraception is followed by divorce, infertility, abortion and mysogeny.
NFP is followed by life-long marriage, health, and love.
Still, the media listens to those who contracept.

The UN sends contraception to third world countries before food
as though to say, "Contracept and THEN we will give you food."
NFP users provide for the basic needs of people
in third world countries without manipulation.

Those who contracept seem to have selective
hearing when it comes to health issues.
Those who use NFP are more aware of general health issues.

Abortion Workers Quit to Become Pro-Life

More Abortion Workers Quit with Pro-Lifers' Help

May 20, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A few nights ago, I shared the stage at a pregnancy center banquet in San Antonio with Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood director who experienced a profound conversion and left the abortion industry during last fall's 40 Days for Life campaign.

As Abby shared the story of her conversion, I was  again amazed at how God has transformed her life - through the prayers and efforts of faithful people.
Abby is just one of 35 abortion workers who have quit their jobs at 40 Days for Life locations. We just received two more amazing reports ...

Mike Stack, 40 Days for Life leader in Southfield, Michigan, reports:

"A week or so ago we got word that the office manager at the Womancare Abortion facility where we have been holding the Southfield 40 Days for Life vigils quit her job.

"A few of the prayer warriors during the Spring campaign had befriended her and found out that she really didn't like working there but felt trapped and unable to find another job. One of the prayer warriors, Christine, arranged to get her resume and did a professional upgrade for her.

"We put the word out to our prayer warriors and a couple months later Casey found a new job and has happily quit working for the abortion facility."

Stack said he later learned that a man whose car had fallen into a ditch at the same clinic had run off with a pro-lifer's cell phone - but even that event, he said, had been "used" by God: Christine and the office manager had started up their conversation after both were drawn to the peculiar sight of the car in the ditch. "Praise God!" he said.

And here is the latest from one of the 40 Days for Life coordinators in a location that must remain anonymous for now:

"I just got word from an anonymous doctor friend of mine that an old school buddy of his quit the abortion clinic in our town, due to the peaceful 'local uprising over the past year' that made him feel 'bad' about what he was doing! He couldn't handle how gentle and nice we were to the women going in, and even to him, as he came out.

"It is truly a miracle that a soul so hardened has been touched by the peaceful and prayerful witness at the abortion mill! Peace, prayers and love works miracles -- the gentleness, honestly and love saves souls in the long run!"

Regardless of what is happening in the political arena or with the latest Supreme Court nomination, know that with God ALL things are possible - changing minds, touching hearts, saving lives, and impacting eternal souls.

Abortion As a "Miscarriage Experience"?

In Cedar Rapids, IA, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland president, Cecile Richards, was the keynote speaker at the recent 30 year anniversary celebration of the abortion cartel. She shared with fellow abortion activists the details of the telemed abortion scheme it has set up in Iowa in which women are instructed on the use of the dangerous drug, RU-486***, via a video conference. They are never seen by a physician.
Sixteen small Planned Parenthood of the Heartland offices are administering the dangerous abortion drug in this way. Cecile Richards revealed her organization's strategy plan for 2015 that will expand drug-induced abortions into every Planned Parenthood clinic through the use of the "telemed abortion" scheme.

The pro-life group, Operation Rescue, spent weeks investigating the Iowa telemed abortion practice which deviates from the FDA protocols in both dosage and number of recommended office visits. The Iowa Board of Medicine is currently investigating the "care and treatment" practices of abortion practitioner Susan Haskell and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland. With no emergency plan, not only will more babies die, there will also be a greater danger to women of serious medical complications or death. It is feared that Planned Parenthood's telemed abortion scheme is dangerous, illegal, and violates FDA protocols for usage of the drug.

According to a receptionist at one of the clinics, "There wouldn’t be anything to go wrong in the medical procedure because you don’t do anything with that right away. You get one pill there in the clinic and that pill stops the pregnancy from growing. Then they give you four more pills, and those pills they send you home with, and they’ll give you the instructions on how and when you would take those."

The first drug the woman takes doesn't just "stop the pregnancy from growing" but is intended to kill her baby by blocking progesterone, the hormone needed to maintain a pregnancy. The receptionist said, "There wouldn't be anything to go wrong" because things would only go awry for the mother after taking the other pills at home.

The secondary set of pills are intended to empty the womb of its contents by causing contractions. At this point in time, the woman is on her own at home to deal with the painful and risky part of the abortion. As Operation Rescue president, Troy Newman says, "I cannot imagine a woman going through the process of miscarriage, either natural or forced, and not having access to a physician, especially for follow-up care. Any number of things could go wrong, and to never actually be seen by a licensed doctor during the entire process seems risky at best, grossly negligent, and perhaps criminal.”

Newman is also emphatic to say, that if allowed to spread, this push-button abortion scheme will only increase the number of abortions at a time when abortion rates are actually falling and abortion clinics are closing. Nationally, abortion rates have dropped as the number of surgical abortion clinics has declined. In Iowa, however, abortion rates have remained steady because telemed abortions have offset the lower number of surgical abortions.

Dr. Tom Ross, a PP physician in Iowa who implements the telemed system, refers to the RU-486 drugs as "medication" and the medical abortion as a "miscarriage experience." He is certain that he fulfills his legal obligation to oversee the abortion process and is also confident that the Iowa Medical Board will approve of the system which has been vetted by private lawyers.

I would not call private lawyers the most qualified professionals to vet the issue since it was lawyers who legalized abortion in the first place with Roe v Wade in 1973. Never mind the fact that the continuation of the human race depends on live births, legal jargon defines an unwanted pregnancy as a "medical condition" as though it was an affliction or disease - and abortion gets rid of it. Describing RU-486 as a "medication" and medical abortion as a "miscarriage experience" is misguiding and only compounds the issue. Using such deceitfully "neutral language" is problematic because such terminology distances the person(s) from the action to the point of denying responsibility for the action.

Our culture has become adept at making abortion look rather benign - as a woman's right to choose - while maligning a woman's pregnancy directly and her fertility indirectly. The pro-abortion population avoids terms that would make the culture see abortion for what it really is - the intentional termination of a human life. Many post-abortive women bury the guilt of what they have done only to have it resurface years or even decades later. They eventually must face the very painful consequences of their decision.

***Below are two paragraphs from a pro-abortion website that are intended to describe how RU-486 works. Notice the language used, as it is very telling. It never refers to a baby or even a fetus - only a pregnancy that is expelled 6-8 hours after taking the second medication. And it leads the woman into thinking that it will be an easy experience.
Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone needed to maintain the pregnancy. Because this hormone is blocked, the uterine lining begins to shed, the cervix begins to soften and bleeding may occur. With the later addition of the second medication, misoprostol, the uterus contracts and the pregnancy is usually expelled within 6 to 8 hours.
The second paragraph is intended to emphasize a woman's choice, her control over her situation, and her sense of empowerment. It really has nothing to do with how RU-486 works, but everything to do with how they think a woman should feel in this situation. It describes the bleeding and cramping as "side effects" - as though they have nothing to do with the abortion itself.
Because the woman chooses when she takes the second medication within the time frame of 24 to 72 hours after the first medication, she has some control over the timing of when she expels the pregnancy and experiences the side effects of bleeding and cramping. Some women choose the Medical Abortion because of the privacy it offers. Some women feel empowered by taking an active role in the process.
